Rockton, IL Rockton, IL Full-time Full-time $110,000 - $120,000 a year $110,000 - $120,000 a year Element6's client is looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, testing, debugging, and implementation of embedded software and systems for foodservice control applications.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in controls and embedded software development, as well as experience with industry standards, regulatory agency standards, cyber security, and security management methods.
They will also be an excellent communicator and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Lead the design, development, testing, debugging, and implementation of embedded software and systems Conducts studies to determine the feasibility and applicability of new and existing control theory to equipment.
Guide the development of software and firmware source code in C/C++, Embedded C, and other languages Utilize version control, simulation, debugging, and other development tools Collaborate cross functionally with hardware engineers Coordinate engineering support for testing, deployment, and updates Manage support staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs Ensure that project/department milestones and goals are met and adhering to approved budgets Have full authority for personnel actions and developing project work plans Develop and maintain software development processes and procedures Ensure that software meets all requirements, including functional, performance, and safety requirements Work with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations Develop and implement security measures to protect software from unauthorized access, use, modification, or disclosure Perform risk assessments and mitigation planning Conduct security audits Provide technical leadership and direction to the embedded software engineering team Mentor and develop junior engineers Develops annual budgets for controls, software and UI/UX development and platform support Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and trends in embedded software development
Qualifications:
Experience with foodservice control system industry standards Excellent technical knowledge and communication skills Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams Experience in UL508, UL698, and Agile methodology Expertise in Model based controls, implementation, and integration Expertise in software processes and quality assurance, requirements management, software design and automation (ASPICE or CMMI) Expertise in optimizing EE architecture and embedded systems with microcontroller or microprocessor to drive effective embedded SW development Expertise in software testing methods for embedded systems (MIL, SIL, PIL, RCP) Experience with regulatory agency standards to effectively support the approval of circuit board layout, control schemes and power management design strategy to ensure compliance Experience with communications protocols like CAN, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, UART, SPI, I2C, Wi-Fi, NFC, Zigbee and Bluetooth Proven expert in foodservice industry or similar industry and associated toolset expertise used to drive development activities (FMEAs, DVP&Rs, Functional Safety) Expertise in cyber security and security management methods Expertise in developing diagnostics and prognostic applications Experience in leading people and providing technical direction Strong follow-through and self-starting nature Ability to communicate with customers (internal and external) in an effective and positive way both written and verbally, to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines OTHER DUTIES:
Maintains cleanliness of work area and follows safe work practice rules and ESD control programs.
Help establish, maintain, and improve engineering processes and tools with industry best practice and ACE/lean principles.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
